Besan Halwa Recipe | Cure cold, cough for Kids & Adults

Besan Halwa

Monsoon is on the way, so are the diseases! One very common problem of all this weather is the cold, flu, sore throat, running nose which ultimately ends up in fever. Not only kids, but adults are also prone to such viral infections especially when there is a change of weather.

Before the running nose, cough and cold gets worse and you run to the doctor, one should try home remedies to naturally cure it. One such easy to make and effective home remedy is BESAN HALWA !

Besan also known as gram flour is popular for treating sore throat and runny nose. Its loved by Punjabi's & that's how I remember that my mom used to give me and my sibblings Besan Sheera or Besan Halwa as soon as we used to complain about cold and cough. It's easy to make but only effort that it takes is to keep stirring it so that its smooth and there are no lumps & besan is equally roasted. My recipe is also for babies so I am going to make it little runny for babies to easily swallow it.

So, here we go...

1. Heat 2 tablespoon ghee in a pan

2. Add 3 tablespoon besan to the ghee and keep stirring it to roast the besan till it gets dark golden brownish in color, Make sure while you roast the besan till it gives the nutty aroma & you are getting the desired color and no lumps are formed, otherwise the halwa color will remain light brown because of the besan not roasted properly and it will taste not good.

3. Keep water ready and as soon as besan is seems roasted homogeneously, add water in it. Add about 1-1 and a 1/2 glass of water and the main point here is to keep stirring it so that lumps aren't formed, and if they get, they get broken, leaving a smooth texture. As I mentioned that this recipe is for babies also, am adding more water to keep the consistency runny.

You can give it to babies above 12 months of age.

4. Add cardamom powder in it to give it a nice flavor.

5. Add sugar in it according to the taste, or 2 tablespoon sugar.

6. Let it boil till you get the desired consistency.

7. You can also add kesar in it, very small pinch.

Besan Halwa

Your Besan Halwa is ready. Serve it warm to the kids and adults too! It will surely help in sore throat and running nose.
